Music Discovery Mondays (September 28, 2015)

So this week's MDM is a little dark. Not like "UZA is a dark song" kind of dark, but in actual lyrics and themes lol. It's just the type of songs that first came to mind for this week.

Track #1: Within Temptation - Angels

This isn't an unknown song by any meaning of the word, but because it's over 10 years old I think it's okay to put here lol. I remember being in late elementary/early middle school & a good friend of mine showed me this song. I was into rock music at the time and this was really the first symphonic rock track I'd heard and it just blew me away. Even though I'm not too into rock nowadays, symphonic rock will always be something I go back to. It's just beautifully powerful music.

Track #2: Halsey - Control

I had been hearing about Halsey for the past few weeks and hadn't had any reason to check her out until a couple days ago. The reason is kind of stupid I guess but any reason to find a new song is a good one lol. I follow a certain Dragon Age blog on Tumblr & they posted a text graphic gif thing with some lyrics from this song and I thought that the lyrics were cool so I looked them up. I wasn't too sure what I thought of the song at first but now I really like it. It's composed in a way that you feel what the mind of the singer is going through. So cool.

Track #3: Akina Nakamori - Jukkai

I've been looking around everywhere for 80s Jpop playlists & videos because I find myself so interested in exploring lately. Came across this song last week on a playlist on 8Tracks & I really like it. I don't know if it's "dark" like the other songs as I can't speak Japanese, but it does have that UZA feel to it. I've read good things about Akina Nakamori before so I definitely need to check out more of her material. Anyone got any suggestions?

Enjoy!

New Music Thursdays (August 20, 2015)

Track #1: Melanie Martinez - Mad Hatter

Since her first album was released on Friday, I could use all three slots on this week's post for songs from her stellar album. I won't though lol. Mad Hatter is one of the more instant songs on the album. I hope people will enjoy it and check out the rest of her work!

Track #2: Girl's Generation - You Think

Up until this release, all of the songs that SNSD released post-Jessica were pretty terrible. Lion Heart is ok at best, but this song really is great. I came across the demo version by Saara & fell in love with the song. It's got such an attitude to it. It does sound a little dated for a K-pop song, but that doesn't stop the song from being a fun, attitude filled pop track. SNSD's new album, Lion Heart, releases on the 19th.

Track #3: Morning Musume- Oh My Wish

I can't remember if I posted this video before this section turned into New Music Thursdays or not, but it doesn't matter. The song is fantastic! Oh My Wish is a song in MM's EDM style. Super catchy....and Kanon & Haruka are the centers! Their new single comes out August 19th.

Song Recommendations (June 1, 2015 Edition)

Wasn't planning on posting another recommendation list yet, but this was spurred by the first video on the list.

Melanie Martinez - Pity Party

Can we all just agree with calling this the English language song of the year? It's SO AMAZING. Her earlier songs are cool too but this is just the next level. Her album is supposed to come out in August & I'm super excited to get it.

Miss A - Love Song

A GOOD K-pop album track?! Have I been transported back to 2012? Seriously though. This should have been the lead song.

Tomomi Itano - Gimme Gimme Luv

I have never liked a song by her until this one. She really seems like a younger version of Namie Amuro and it would be cool if she could become the next big female soloist.

Steve Aoki - Back To Earth (ft. Fall Out Boy)

Fall Out Boy + EDM = Love.

Song Recommendations (March 25, 2015 Edition)

It's been awhile since I've done one of these. It's been a not very good week for me so I figured doing one of these would cheer me up a bit and I hope that anyone who reads this can find a new song to make them happy :D

Crayon Pop - FM

This is just a dance shot for their new song as the MV isn't out yet, but wow I was really impressed with this song. I've liked Crayon Pop since before Bar Bar Bar and had been excited to see them get a lot of attention and was ready to see what they'd do next. Then they released Uh-ee. I find that song so bland I was very disappointed. This song makes them exciting again.

Krewella - Somewhere To Run

I love them. I do. So much. However, I've been unsure how their new music was going to go since the guy left, but this is reassuring. It's not as good as anything on their first album, but it makes me less nervous about the direction of the new album.

C-ute - The Middle Management ~Josei Chuukan Kanrishoku~

This really is the only good song from C-ute's new single tbh. Tsugi no Kado wo Magare is ok and GamushaLife is pretty much your generic idol track that you're pretty sure you've heard the 48s do 100 times. I don't like this Tsunku-less H!P....

Orange Caramel - The Gangnam Avenue

Kind of an older song (from last year), but this is such a gem in Orange Caramel's discography.

Up Up Girls - Bijo no Yajuu (Beast of Beauty)

Gosh this song. THIS FREAKING SONG. Why had I never paid attention to UUG before...

Predia - Na mo Naki Shiroi Hana wa Kie Iku

Such a wonderful song. They're a group I really need to look further into.

DIA - Paradise

This song is so beautiful. I don't know why I never knew it before. It actually made me cry when I watched it with the translation up. Gorgeous.

Country Girls - Itoshikutte Gomen ne

I usually don't like this amount of cutesy but I adore the retro feel of the song.

Fall Out Boy - Fourth Of July

Thought I'd end with this. Absolutely blew me away when I heard the album. Can't wait to do a full review on this CD

Enjoy!
